It’s Been Awhile

So, the last time I blogged here, was my 26th birthday, almost 2 years ago. I’ve missed it.

I have been doing a lot of projects off of Pinterest recently and wanted to share my creations.

So to start, one thing I made were some soap pouches.

soap pouch

The pink one has something in it, and the purple one is empty.

The first time I saw this pin, I knew I had to make it. I was sick of my shower puff falling apart every couple of months or so. Washcloths were always way too much cloth for my small hands. Body wash can be expensive.

All you need is:

  • A Washcloth
  • Needle
  • Thread
  • Scissors

So, I first cut the washcloth in half. I folded the bottom up about 3/4 of the way, so there was a flap to tuck into the pouch. I sewed up the sides, with the side of the washcloth I wanted on the outside, on the inside.I flipped the pouch inside out and put a bar of soap inside, tucked the flap around the soap.

I used this in the shower the other night, and it was nice. Except for the cloth getting stuck to the soap  every once in a while, it was pretty nice. Just make sure to take the soap out after use and ring out all the suds and water so it can dry and doesn’t start to smell like mildew until you are ready to wash.

On Stranger Tides

Last week I bought the Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides OPI Nail Polish collection.
The colors are (From left to right): Mermaid's Tears, Steady as She Rose, Sparrow Me the Drama, Skull & Glossbones, Stranger Tides, and Planks A Lot.

My co-worker K says I'm addicted to nail polish. This is the only time I've bought a collection like this. I painted my nails with the Sparrow Me the Drama on Saturday, I love this color.

I also bought the shatter and I will try that out in the next couple of days and show you what that looks like! I was kind of surprised when I heard about this collection, and then saw that they were pastels. But I absolutely love the colors!

Genuine Ken

ken-anniversary__oPt

So last night, I was browsing Hulu for something to watch, when I came across Genuine Ken. I love bad reality tv.

So this is show started with 8 men, competing to be Barbie’s Ken, The Great American Boyfriend.

The first challenge was a talent show. And really they didn’t have very much talent. Other challenges included surfing, running errands for Barbie, fashion challenge, and demonstrating their romantic side.

small_Genuine_Ken_Premieres

I loved when they announced the challenge for running errands for Barbie. The Hills chick (I don’t know or care her name) and another chick, had breakfast with the guys. One of the guys said he expected the challenge to be to ask the one woman on a date and so was looking for an opening to ask her out instead of listening to the other lady talk about Barbie’s life.

My favorite was Chris, who made it to the final two. I haven’t watched the last episode yet, but don’t think he won.

Ferrero Rocher

Still plenty of time to enter to win a gift certificate to Bead Eclectic!

According to my calendar, today is Mother’s Day in pretty much South America. I found a recipe for Ferrero Rocher cupcakes, so thought this would be a perfect opportunity to make them.

I first attempted these Sunday night, and they were a disaster. I used this recipe to being with and it wasn’t pretty.

So I tried again last night. This time I used just a chocolate cupcake recipe with a dash of hazelnut syrup. The original recipe called for hazelnut extract, which could only be found online and I didn’t want to wait for it to get here. I was at World Market and saw Hazelnut Syrup and decided to give it a try. I used the sugar free syrup, no Calories! Winning.

Chocolate Cupcakes
Ingredients

1 1/3 cups all-purpose flour
1/4 teaspoon baking soda
2 teaspoons baking powder
3/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
1/8 teaspoon salt
3 tablespoons butter, softened
1 1/2 cups white sugar
2 eggs
3/4 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 cup milk
Dash of hazelnut syrup

    Directions

    1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Line a muffin pan with paper or foil liners. Sift together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, cocoa and salt. Set aside.

    2. In a large bowl, cream together the butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Add the eggs one at a time, beating well with each addition, then stir in the vanilla. Add the flour mixture alternately with the milk. Add dash of hazelnut syrup; beat well. Fill the muffin cups 3/4 full.

    3. Bake for 15 to 17 minutes in the preheated oven, or until a toothpick inserted into the cake comes out clean. Frost with your favorite frosting when cool.

Once the cupcakes were cool, I cut a cone out of the top and filled with Nutella.

The Chocolate Hazelnut Ganache Recipe

1/2 c heavy cream
8 oz good semi-sweet chocolate chunks
2 T light corn syrup
2 t hazelnut syrup

Heat the cream on the stove until it boils. Pour over the chocolate and stir to melt, adding the corn syrup and hazelnut syrup.

I drizzled the ganache over the cupcakes and sprinkled hazelnut pieces on top. Delicious!

Ya Know What Scratches My Chalkboard….

Those crazy women that wear make up at the gym.

One day, I walked into the locker room to change clothes to work out. There were two women doing their make up. One said something about putting on 10 layers, I think of eyeliner. How crazy is that? Well of course when I saw them I figured they were done working out and about to leave. Nope. After I was done with my cardio, there they were in the weight area. Why do you wear make up to work out?!? Especially ten layers of it! I hate when I get a towel that has make up stains on it.

And then yesterday, these women were there as usual. One of them was wearing these to work out in:

41967_H_SH315_MW355

Well not exactly like this, but pretty much. Why would you wear boots to work out in?!? At least she wasn’t doing cardio, but still just as bad. They have to have horrible arch support. I would think they would hurt your ankles and be hard on the feet. People are crazy.

Also, go enter my giveaway. Me love you long time.

Blissfully Beautiful

So as part of my journey to a new me, I want to craft more. My major craft is making necklaces. I wanted to share this with all of you. I started making jewelry when I was in high school. I had a friend that I would hang out with her and her friends on Friday nights and have Craft Night. Most of the other people that attended, were into jewelry making and so I got into it too.

So the first thing I do is select a pendant.

DSC07519.ARW

The I sort through all of my beads and pick a combination of beads that I like.

P3290339

For this necklace I used a combination of pearls, jasper, and silver spacer beads. I think there might have been other types of gems used, but I don’t know. I believe the pendant is made of hemalyke. Then I lay out the beads in a pattern that I like.

P3290342

Then I string it on acuflex and it’s good to go.

So in honor of my re-launch, I want to do a giveaway. When I reach 50 followers, I will do a giveaway of a necklace made by me. I will post more details when it happens, so please follow me and you could win a gorgeous necklace made by moi!

I’m Back

cocoonSo after months away, I have returned to blog land. I think before I just got jaded and trying to do too much.

I got a new layout which I think is for fitting for my life right now. Growing up, I was pretty much a tom boy. I didn’t have anyone to teach me to put on makeup and didn’t have girlie clothes. My mom never wore make up, and only painted her nails clear. She never wore high heels or fancy shoes. My sister is 13 years older than me so by the time I would be getting into clothes and make up, she was out of the house and married. So all I’ve really ever worn is jeans and t-shirts.

The whole month of February, I filled in the corporate office at work for a lady that was on sick leave. During that time, I had to dress a little nicer, as the president of the company used to be a model, and he was all about appearances. I loved wearing nicer clothes! It made me feel so grown up. Now, I am back working at the other office, and back to wearing jeans and polos to work, as in this office it’s really not practical to wear fancy clothes.

This weekend, I found a friend from college’s blog about nail polish. Seeing her blog made me go out and buy more nail polish as a first step to changing my life. I want to become more girly, wearing make up, nail polish, nicer clothes, do my hair, and all that good stuff. So the new layout is a reflection of that change.

I’ve been telling myself for months that I was going to start blogging again and have not tons of ideas for posts, but obviously never got around it to. I kept telling myself, so next Monday, I will start again. Monday would come and go and I wouldn’t get around to it and so then felt like I had to wait til the next Monday, some reason I felt blogs had to start on Monday or at the beginning of a month. But that’s how we are as humans with everything, “I want to change X about myself, but I can’t start until the New Year.” Or until after the holidays or until after X happens. We all use these type excuses, but nothing can change until we make it, I know it’s cliché but there’s no time like the present and you gotta start some where. This is my start.

I hope to be able to share more of my transformations with you all through the coming months. I also hope to do and show off more crafting and cooking.
